Women in Innovation (WiN) event 2023

SRNSFG organised the 2023 edition of Women in Innovation (WiN) conference on 19 June, 2023.
The purpose of the conference was to present the activities of female scientists and innovators representing the STEM direction, share experience, raise motivation and promote female scientists.Promotion of active participation in research, raising public awareness of gender equality, promotion of participation of women and girls in scientific research.
Erekle Astakhishvili, Director General of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, Mariam Lashkhi, a member of the Standing Parliamentary Council on Gender Equality and the Culture and Education Committee of the Parliament, Professor Zaza Maruashvili, Deputy Head of the Science Development Department of the Ministry of Education and Science, Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University welcomed the audience. Jaba Samushia, Deputy Representative of UN Women Tamar Sabedashvili, Deputy Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Professor Nino Okribelashvili, Associate Professor of Ilia State University Tamar Tskhadadze. Rusudan Jobava, Head of the International Relations and Fundraising Service of Rustaveli National Science Foundation, presented a presentation about the CALIPER project.
In order to share the experience of women scientists and innovators working in the STEM direction, presentations were made by: Professor of Technical University of Georgia, candidate of technical sciences, winner of the Foundation’s 2022 applied research grant competition, Lana Shatakishvili, Ph.D., representative of the Agrarian University, winner of the 2022 applied research grant competition, Eka Metreveli , the founder and executive director of the “IT Academy Step Georgia” branch, Maka Makhatadze, and the doctor of geological sciences, professor of San Diego State University, Elina Bakradze.

Results of the project:

  • Gender Equality Plan (GEP);
  • Award competition – “Women in Science” – for special achievements in the STEM direction;
  • Section on the website “Women in Science”, where information about successful Georgian women scientists is placed;
  • The mechanism for checking gender equality in scientific projects;
  • Guide for members of the expert panel;
  • Brochures, guides on raising awareness;
At the end of the event, the winner of the 2023 Rustaveli National Science Foundation prize competition “Women in Science” was awarded the scientist, doctor of biology, Tamar Khardziani.
Research innovators from various Georgian universities and research centers, as well as representatives of the public sector, donors and non-governmental organizations were invited to the conference.
