“The invisibilisation/invisibility of women in Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering. A dialogue with the Human and Social Sciences”

For the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February 2022), ULB’s CALIPER team organises the conference «The invisibilization/invisibility of women in Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering. A dialogue with the Human and Social Sciences» in collaboration with STRIGES, ULB’s interdisciplinary research structure on gender and sexuality. The conference will address the question of the lack of visibility and/or presence of women in STEM disciplines by looking at both high school students’ gendered attitudes towards science and technology and the barriers women face in STEM careers. The speakers come from both STEM and SHS in order to promote interdisciplinary dialogue.

This conference will take place within the opening day of the multidisciplinary exhibition F.A.S.T. Femmes Arts Sciences Technologies, organized by Ohme in collaboration with CALIPER and many other partners from 11 February to 6 March 2022 at ULB’s premises. The exhibition aims at shedding light, from a historical and artistic point of view, on the invisibilisation of women in the history of art, science, and technology.
